Trevor Immelman became the first South African to win the Masters since Gary Player in 1978 after Tiger Woods decided on the 14th green that he didn't feel like winning this year.
"Everyone knows that I am going after the Grand Slam, but after that, what am I supposed to accomplish?" said Woods during his post-round interview. "Frankly, I decided to let Trevor have this one, win the remaining three this year, then decide in the off-season if I want to win the Grand Slam in 2009."
Though he didn't play up to his abilities during the four-day stretch in August, GA, Woods was still able to finish second, his fifth second-place finish at a major tournament. Many are saying that Woods is in a little bit of a slump, after not winning the Masters for the third year in a row, despite owning four green jackets already. However, it's becoming increasingly clear that he simply doesn't want to achieve everything in golf before he is ready to stop playing.
"It's hard, you know, because everyone knows I am the best golfer in the history of the game and can win whenever I want, but I also love the game and don't want to conquer all of it too early in my life."
Woods, who turned 32 last December, has 64 career PGA wins with 13 coming in major tournaments.
