I just read the following sentences on ESPN.com during the Chad Ford/Bill Simmons "Great Draft Debate '08" and I couldn't hold back a comment:
Bill Simmons: If I were running the Kings, I'd go with Roy Hibbert here over forcing a point guard pick. You could do worse than a Hibbert/Hawes center combo. You really could. Worst-case scenario — repeat: worst-case scenario — he's a valuable backup center at a cheap price for the next five years. Best-case scenario, he can evolve into a starting center who blocks shots and anchors your defense (like Kendrick Perkins with a 15-footer). He's the most undervalued guy in a draft where nearly everyone is properly valued.
Simmons clearly didn't watch much of Roy Hibbert during his four years at Georgetown. If he did, he would realize that despite being 7'2", Hibbert never averaged 7.0 rebounds nor 2.5 blocks per game. How he was able to do that despite being roughly six inches taller than everyone else is beyond me. Best case scenario, he fights Scot Pollard for playing time.
I have to agree whole heartedly with my good friend Matt Luisi's assessment of Hibbert: Hibbert is poop. 7 foot 3 inches of poop.
