Draft Picks by Team Since 1990

I was looking back at some of the past draft day choices that each NBA team has made over the past two decades or so and was surprised by some of the names on each list.  Disregarding draft day trades, it’s interesting to see some of the picks.

Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets:
1991 (#1 overall): Larry Johnson
1992 (#2 overall): Alonzo Mourning
1996 (#16 overall): Kobe Bryant
1999 (#3 overall): Baron Davis
2003 (#18 overall): David West
2005 (#5 overall): Chris Paul

A pretty good list, which doesn’t include other NBA stalwarts like Scott Burrell, Tony Delk, Ricky Davis, Jamaal Magloire and the team’s first ever choice, Rex Chapman.

Phoenix Suns:
1995 (#21 overall): Michael Finley
1996 (#15 overall): Steve Nash
1999 (#9 overall): Shawn Marion
2002 (#9 overall): Amare Stoudemire
2004 (#7 overall): Luol Deng
2006 (#21 overall): Rajon Rondo

For a team that has been most recently known for getting rid of picks, they have a pretty good history, even if they were picking for other people.

Toronto Raptors:
1995 (#7 overall): Damon Stoudamire (franchise’s first pick)
1996 (#2 overall): Marcus Camby
1997 (#9 overall): Tracy McGrady
1998 (#4 overall): Antawn Jamison
2003 (#4 overall): Chris Bosh

I wouldn’t say it’s the same caliber as the Hornets, but not bad overall.

Golden State Warriors:
1992 (#24 overall): Latrell Sprewell
1993 (#3 overall): Anfernee Hardaway
1998 (#5 overall): Vince Carter
2001 (#5 overall): Jason Richardson

I have to admit, I was swayed by Chris Mullin (1985), Mitch Richmond (1988) and Tim Hardaway (1989)…

And just for posterity sake, here’s the Knicks list:

1990 (#17 overall): Jerrod Mustaf
1991 (#12 overall): Greg Anthony
1992 (#20 overall): Hubert Davis
1994 (#24 overall): Monty Williams
1994 (#26 overall): Charlie Ward
1996 (#18 overall): John Wallace
1996 (#19 overall): Walter McCarty
1996 (#21 overall): Dontae Jones
1997 (#25 overall): John Thomas
1999 (#15 overall): Frederic Weis
2000 (#22 overall): Donnell Harvey
2002 (#25 overall): Frank Williams
2003 (#9 overall): Mike Sweetney
2005 (#8 overall): Channing Frye
2005 (#30 overall): David Lee
2006 (#20 overall): Renaldo Balkman
2006 (#29 overall): Mardy Collins
2007 (#23 overall): Wilson Chandler
2008 (#6 overall): Danilo Gallinari

What’s the most depressing thing about this list?  Total All-Star game appearances of the group: zero
