Lunch Today: Pasta Fagioli

Lunch Today: Pasta Fagioli

I have returned to the corporate world and I am always amazed at how much conversation and interest there is in people’s lunches.  Whenever someone heats something up in the microwave everyone pokes their heads up to see what is being warmed.  Is it chicken parm?  Minestrone soup?  Some type of fish?  Oh god, please not fish!

Anyway, in order to extend the reach of my own lunches, I’ve decided to start posting pictures and commentary of my own lunches and possibly some thoughts of the lunches around me.  I’ll admit that I’ve stolen this idea from a few guys that I used to work with, but as far as I know, they’ve stopped providing updates.

Today’s meal: pasta fagioli and a can of diet coke

To give some background, I usually bring my own lunch to work, which I’ve noticed more and more people doing over the past couple of months with the economy struggling and all.  My wife and I made a huge pot of pasta fagioli this past weekend and I’ve had it for lunch everyday so far this week.  It’s a solid base to get me through the rest of the day and doesn’t annoy the people around me since it smells good after it comes out of the microwave.  I don’t generally like to heat things up in plastic containers, since it’s supposedly bad for you, but when you bring your lunch to work, what other choices do you have?

Other lunches around me: a $9 cup of minestrone soup (which comes with a free banana) from the Soup Nazi on 42nd and 5th and a pick-your-fillings salad that was clearly made after a lot of picking.
