Lunch(es) Today: Double Meat Sandwiches, Pork Chops, Tossed Salad and Pasta

Due to popular demand, the “Lunch Today” column has been expanded to “Lunches Today” to better include the delicacies that are consumed within the friendly confines of the office here.  Some people bring lunch from home, others like to buy tossed salads from the deli downstairs.  With people from all walks of life, the lunches I see here cross all aspects of the culinary universe, some of which would even make Bobby Flay blush.

And without further ado, today’s lunches:

“The Don” led off the lunch consumption today with a turkey, ham and muenster sandwich, which he apparently had to eat dry because he ran out of mayonnaise at home.  The double-meat and cheese combination was surround by “high fiber, double protein bread,” which sounds as delicious as as a vegetarian porterhouse for two.  Accompanying the sandwich was a smattering of baby carrots, packaged within the same ziploc bag, as seen here:

Manmeat was not too far behind, hitting up the fridge and then the microwave to warm up his leftover grilled pork chop (marinated in worcestershire sauce and jalapenos) and steamed broccoli.  To add a little more zest to the meal, Manmeat also brought in a small container of Dinosaur BBQ sauce, which he generously painted on top of the pork chop for that little extra southern comfort taste:

The Bulldog was the only one on the desk who didn’t bring lunch today.  He apparently had leftovers that he planned on packing for lunch (some type of grilled chicken), but he forgot it this morning and consequently had to buy lunch today.  He went with a mixed salad that included the normal base of lettuce, which was then crammed with chicken, cucumber, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and hard-boiled eggs and then tossed with a blue cheese dressing.  To wash down this 2,000-calorie salad, the Bulldog purchased a bottle of Cherry Coke Zero, a product I didn’t know existed until today:

For my own lunch, I was relegated to leftover pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe.  I have now eaten this concoction three times this week, either for lunch or dinner, and I must say that I am pretty happy to have finished it.  While it may be my favorite pasta dish, I must be honest and say that I have gotten a little sick of it.

For some reason I convinced myself this morning that there was not enough pasta in the container for a full lunch, so I also packed the bag of Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips that has been sitting in my pantry at home since New Year’s Day.  The bag has slowly gotten lighter over the past two weeks and today was the final day of its existence.  As you can see by the size, it wasn’t something to be consumed in a single day:

So those were the lunches today.  Check back next week for more.
